The Lone Area
You enter into a strange, cold place that seems as if you are on top of the world. You look up and find that you are actually at the top of the mountain, glancing up only to the moons and the stars.
The first moon is quite large, and the other two that accompany it are completely outshined by the first. However, they sit in perfect harmony around it. Near them, millions of stars sparkling in the distance, echoing eternity.
You look around you and find that the area seems to be rather nice and well set-up. The rocks have obviously been sweeped, and it appears as if a fire has been in another area, as there is a pile of ash and even a pile of fire wood.
You glance over towards the base of the mountain, and you find that there is some sort of camp set up. You walk over and find that there is a nest. Inside of it there is a pillow, and on that pilliow there is a...cacoon? Yes, a white and blue cacoon on a warm pillow...
You squat down next to the nest and note that the nest is level with the stars. You smile and lean over the cacoon, and you slowly reach your hand out to touch it.
THWAPITA!
You are thrown back and the strange sound emits from you as you land. You sit back and gulp, wondering if it was the nest itself that did this to you. Or, worse yet, the mother bird coming to get you for distrubing her home!
You open your eyes and find a crest-moon shaped thing about your neck. You look up and find that it is the end of a staff, and a young elven girl is holding it at the other end.
Her eyes are completely black, and her hair is a orange-red color. Both match her blank, white complextion, which is brought out by her dark purple with pink lining rob. She does not look pleased.
"I should hope that you did not come up here to bother me," she growls. "I am Meya, sister to Cheli, guardian of the cacoon." She glares at you with her eyes flaring with anger.
You try to back away from the crestent-moon, but it is futile. You finally introduce yourself, "I am just a wanderor, just looking!" you cry out.
She pulls her staff away from you and leans some of her weight against it. "I see, and just what do you call what you were about to do back there? 'Seeing with your hands'?" She shakes her head. "Nevermind."
"I am sorry," you applogize, remembering that some of the guardians tend to have hot tempers. "I did not know, I didn't think anyone else was up here."
"That does not warrent you the right to go about touching everything, especially not eggs or cacoons," Meya replies frankly.
You try to divert her from the subject, "What is in the cacoon, anyway?"
She nods. "I guess that makes sense, you would not have touched it had you know...the cacoon might hatch to be an Egyptis." She looks back toward you. "That is, a sort of fox creature."
"Fox creature?" you inquire further.
"They are more than that," she says, now drifting out of her anger. "They have two-toned furs, and they also have feather-type frill on their head. In addition, they boast two feather wings and five tails."
"Five tails?" you say, a bit astonished.
"Yes, five." She shakes her head. "They are quite beautiful, and they tend to have wondrous coats. My sister, Cheli, has helped to hatch the first Egyptus in the Wood. She is somewhere in the meadows, or so I have been told."
"Why are you out here?" you ask as gently as you can.
"Well, I came out here and I decieded to move away from Gryphonai. You see, the top of the third mountain, one called Gyankiana, is what the ancients called the Gateways to the Stars. So I decieded to make my home here, where I can gaze at the moons and the stars."
"Oh..." you stare about yourself in wonder. "What about the Egyptis, why do you want one?"
She laughs. "I never though wanderors were as curious as you are." She smiles. "Well, I don't want to be up here, alone, you know? So I volenteered to bring creatures from afar here. When they told me about the Egyptis, I absolutely had to try to adopt one!"
"Really?"
She nods and looks upward at the starscaped sky. "Hopefully, one day I can share the stars with one."
Back to Gryphonai
