About Qiuniu

Qiuniu was one of the nine sons of the dragon. [1] He loved music with all his heart, [3] and so became its patron. [1]

Thus, his head adorned musical instruments, for his enjoyment of art enabled its protection. [2] Qiuniu's head can be most commonly found on two-string, moon-shaped fiddles, among other instruments. [1]

Sometimes, Qiuniu and Puloa were conflated because of their shared association with bells. [1]

Physical Description

Qiuniu was a traditional Lung dragon. The head of Qiuniu is usually all that is depicted in motifs. [1]
