About Utakura
Utakura was one of the eleven taniwha sons of Araiteuru (Āraiteuru) of Hokianga Harbour. [2] Each of her eleven sons took a journey to see the country in which they lived, and each left his own mark on the harbor or surrounding country side. [1]
Following his brother's success, Utakura left home to see Waihou's new home. He managed to traverse quite a long journey, only to be stopped by Korotangi Falls and enclosed by a steep gorge. In the end, he made his home in the pool by the falls. [2]
